Olympic chiefs have issued a statement after Mariah Carey was accused of lip-syncing during her performance at the opening ceremony for the Milan-Cortina Games. The 56-year-old performed two songs at San Siro on Friday evening, but her delivery divided opinion as fans online claimed that she was miming the words rather than singing live.
Now, top official Maria Laura Lascone, has addressed speculation, saying: “During all the Ceremony, we always record. But this is something that is used internationally.
“Yesterday’s performance was really extraordinary and the images can prove it to you all, because there was magic.”
She added: “Yes, we had a teleprompter, especially for those artists who sang in a different language as they needed some support. It is a way to support the talents on the stage.”
