‘Masterpiece’ period drama based on ‘the greatest book’ is coming out in the UK in days | Films | Entertainment

There is plenty of excitement among period-drama fans as a new film is set to be released in the UK within days. It is based on what many people call the greatest book ever written, and some say it could become one of the standout adaptations of the year. Some are also already calling it a masterpiece, while others say they are curious to see how such a famous story has been reimagined.

The trailer has built plenty of interest, with people sharing their reactions online ahead of its cinema release. The cast features some Hollywood heavyweights, with many arguing that the movie is one of the most anticipated releases of 2026.

The film in question is Wuthering Heights, an adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic 1847 novel.

The screenplay was written by Emerald Fennell, who also directed the film.

There has been plenty of reaction from period drama fans online. One person said: “I can’t wait for this masterpiece. The trailer looks good and I’m interested to see what they will do with this adaptation of the greatest book.”

Another added: “Very excited to see Margot Robbie as Cathy Earnshaw. But this could go both ways. This could be a masterpiece or a flop. It’s difficult to adapt Wuthering Heights, let alone do it in a new and exciting style.”

A third wrote: “Not long to wait now and all of our questions will be answered. Cinema tickets booked so let’s see what this film brings.”

The film stars Margot Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff.

Hong Chau, Shazad Latif, Alison Oliver, Martin Clunes and Ewan Mitchell also appear, with younger versions of the main characters played by Charlotte Mellington, Owen Cooper and Vy Nguyen.

Wuthering Heights premiered at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles on January 28, 2026. It will be released in UK cinemas on February 13.

Filming took place across the Yorkshire Dales and at Sky Studios Elstree, using 35mm VistaVision cameras.

Emerald Fennell and Margot Robbie also produced the film through LuckyChap Entertainment.

The soundtrack includes an original score by Anthony Willis and new music from Charli XCX.

But whether the film becomes the “masterpiece” many expect remains to be seen.

Tickets are now available to purchase from UK cinema chains like Vue and Odeon.
