Tennis LIVE: Cincinnati Open star ‘really angry’ as umpire steps in over language | Tennis | Sport

Sorana Cirstea appeared to take issue with the technology during her match against Iga Swiatek. With Cirstea serving to stay in the first set at 3-5, the reigning Wimbledon champion hit a forehand that just clipped the line, but the Romanian thought it was out. The automated system confirmed it was in, and the umpire showed Cirstea a replay, but Cirstea continued to complain and was told off for her language.

“Sorana, let’s choose the words which we are using, okay? For me, it was very close to the line. The system is working, the system shows on the court as well. We need to keep going, and we need to choose the words which we are using as well,” the official said.

The world No. 138 then started moaning because the service speeds weren’t showing up on the electronic boards on the court. She held serve and Sky Sports went to a break, but when coverage resumed, commentator Jonathan Overend confirmed Cirstea was still unhappy.

“Cirstea’s complaints to the umpire continue to be mainly about why the speed of serve is not showing on the back board. She’s getting really angry about that, Annabel, and I don’t kind of get [it],” he said.

Annabel Croft replied: “I think what she’s trying to prove is that the technology isn’t really working so how can I trust any of it if that’s not working? That’s what I read into it but I’m not sure. It’s totally different but she’s kind of relating the whole thing to being about technology.”
