A family is searching for the perfect candidate to work as a companion to their beloved dog in a rare job opportunity. The successful applicant will join a private estate household with the main purpose of looking after the animal.

The Live-In Dog Companion and Estate Assistant position comes with a salary of £60,000 and includes a cottage on the estate. Partners and pets are welcome, with all bills covered. The role is full-time, running Sunday to Thursday from 9am to 6pm, though there is flexibility when the family are in residence at their Surrey estate.

The distinctive job description states: “We are seeking a dependable and caring Live-In Dog Companion and Estate Assistant to join a private estate household.

“This role is centred around providing a consistent presence on the property, supporting the well-being and daily routine of the family dog, and assisting the household team with light support tasks around the estate.

“The successful candidate will act as a guardian of the home, offering reassurance and attentive oversight of the property when principals are in residence or travelling.

“This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys a calm, structured environment and takes pride in maintaining a welcoming and well-run home.”

The main part of the position revolves around caring for the family dog, delivering day-to-day attention and companionship. Duties include following the dog’s routine, feeding, grooming and the animal’s overall well-being.

You would be required to monitor the dog’s health and behaviour, as well as maintain the dog’s daily diary. The diary includes routine, meals, walks and visits to the vets, groomers and trainers as necessary.

Alongside caring for the dog, the successful candidate must ensure the home “runs smoothly” and is “well cared for”. These responsibilities include acting as a trusted guardian of the property, accepting deliveries and flagging anything that requires attention.

The job description, available on Achieve Hospitality, clarifies that it is not a full-time housekeeping position. But, you may be required to run errands, carry out light organisational tasks and assist with general estate maintenance.

On occasion, you may need to reheat chef-prepared meals, prepare simple snacks and tidy the kitchen after use. The family are seeking someone who is “warm, calm and dependable”.

You should have a genuine passion for dogs and animals and be comfortable living on-site. Additional qualities include being organised, discreet, trustworthy and respectful of the private household.

The description adds: “Previous experience in private households, estate roles, dog care, nannying or live-in support roles would be highly advantageous.”
