A vet has revealed a divisive “truth” regarding doodle dog breeds and it’s caused quite a stir. Millions of people worldwide are keen to welcome a dog into their home, with the cherished pet becoming an integral part of the family.
Like most aspects of life, dog breeds fall victim to “trends”, with particular breeds experiencing surges in popularity. In an attempt to help reduce symptoms of dog allergies; throughout the years, specific breeds have been crossbred to encourage desirable characteristics such as hypoallergenic coats, superior intelligence, and affectionate temperaments.
Well-known combinations include a golden retriever and a poodle, creating a so-called “goldendoodle”; a cocker spaniel and a poodle, producing a “cockapoo”; a Bernese mountain dog and a poodle, which makes a “Bernedoodle”; a Labrador retriever and a poodle; forming a “labradoodle”, a Cavalier King Charles spaniel and a poodle, resulting in a “cavapoo”, and many more besides.
Their calm, affectionate dispositions, non-moulting coats, and how straightforward they typically are to train has witnessed “doodle” breeds skyrocket in popularity.
People contemplating getting a pet dog may turn to social media seeking guidance and professional advice, with numerous experts willing to offer their knowledge.

One such professional is veterinarian Dr Amir Anwary, who has established himself as a firm favourite online, accumulating hundreds of thousands of followers and millions of “likes” on TikTok owing to his regular videos where he provides his guidance and recommendations.
Beyond educational content, he also shares lighthearted footage of himself dancing or lipsynching to songs and “sounds” on the popular video sharing platform.
In a recent video, the vet revealed his contentious opinion on doodle breed names. In the clip, he can be seen lipsynching to a quote which asks: “Can I please correct your English?”
In text overlaid on the footage, he added: “When I ask an owner what breed their dog is and they say ‘goldendoodle’ instead of ‘mixed breed'”.
In the comments section, viewers were split – some supported the vet’s position against doodle names while others believed they offer useful information.
One TikTok user said: “Say it louder for the people in the back!” To which, Dr Anwary replied: “NOT A BREED!!”
Another said: “Yes!!!! Truth!!”
While a third confessed: “One of my passive aggressive things is to tell all clients when they ask what breed the dog I’m working on is (pro dog groomer) that it’s a poodle mix whenever it’s any kind of ‘doodle’.”
And a fourth said: “I always say poodle mix”.
Someone else offered a different perspective with: “But a golden doodle tells you what breeds they are mixed with so saved you asking the next question and gives you some valuable information”.
Another disagreed and replied: “The vet can probably already tell. The real issue is the belief people have that their mutt is a designer dog. It’s a mixed breed mutt and there is nothing wrong with that! All my dogs have been mixed breeds and they’re great dogs. No need for mutt owners to be pretentious just because they spent thousands on theirs.”
But another countered: “That’s a whole different thing however it is extremely handy to know the main breeds a mix breed dog has in it and if you just give it a quirky name who cares”.
One person agreed: “Knowing that it’s part golden and part poodle can have you watch for specific genetic illnesses that might affect either breed. Same with any mixed breed, identifying the mix gives the vet insight.”
Another said: “Bernedoodle! I’ll die on this hill. That’s all.”
Someone else added: “But really, does it matter THAT much? If I pay and care for my pet?”
Dr Anwary replied: “TBH it really doesn’t bother me …. It’s just funny how many people get touched”.
